Draft Logo Project

For this project I have decided to create a very simple design, giving off the implication of traveling. This relates to my course topic because the palm trees and the surf board are giving off the indication that you’re on vacation. I was mainly inspired by some palm trees I saw in an ad online for great vacations. I did not do a whole lot of research trying to come up with my design, most of it pretty much just came to me. The significance is how subtle it is, and how relaxed it makes you feel, which you should when you’re on vacation.

My design process was a little complex, but the tutorials really helped me out. I started off by using the polygon tool and turning that into a triangle. I shrunk it into the desired size to make the base of the tree. I then warped it in the effects category so it wasn’t just up and down. I managed to do this exact process to make the leaves. I copied and rotated thee entire design to make the other tree. The surf board was created through the ellipse tool and I simply just stretched it out. The banner I made from the same tutorial from the logo tutorials. And the back ground I enlarged a circle, and pushed it to the back, and finally adding the stars to the upper area.

I managed to create this project using the tutorials we watched earlier this week, and I spent a lot of time fidgeting with illustrator, coming up with new ways to create things. My process for constructing my project was to try and keep it simple, yet elegant. The main tools I used were the polygon tool, and the warp effect to give my pieces a better look and feel. The main challenge i had was coming up with a way to first construct the leaves. It took me a very long time to get the right shape, and I was unsure on how to even get that shape to begin with. I solved this by trial and error, going back and forth trying to get the perfect shape.

Obviously this is not my final project and I would never intend it to be. I have many more corrections that I already see, and desire to fix. But this is a good base start for my final logo design.

  1. Hello there Samuel!

First off, I think you’re off to a great start with your logo project. I enjoy the bright colors that you decided to use; I think that they represent your topic well. Also, I like the theme you are going for. The fun tropical aspect of this logo will definitely capture the attention of the viewers.

One thing that I would change would be the text. Either choose a different color, or find a different font that fits that tropical theme. Also, maybe choose another way to show the text; the banner doesn’t seem to fit with the theme.. Maybe add in some clouds or some water and incorporate the text that way.

Other than those few minor details, I think you seem to know where you want to go with this project, and you can do amazing things with it! Keep up the great work.

  2. I really like your logo design. The creativity and effort you put in to create it really shows. The only minor things I would suggest would be the banner and the text. I would suggest that with the banner you should make the edges softer to match the theme that you created in you circle part of the logo. If the edges of the banner were softer then I think the whole logo would fit really well together. One other thing that I suggest doing is expanding your GTD text. I am not sure what this stands for and I think other viewers would say the same. I am guessing it is abbreviations of something so by maybe spelling it out the viewer never has to wonder. Overall you have a really creative design that shows all the time you have spent on it.

  3. Hello there Samuel.
I think your design is really awesome! I like how there’s really no outlines, it gives it a simplistic look. The only thing that has an outline is the banner, which kind of makes it look off from the rest of the design. If you made the stroke of the banner a darker shade of the same yellow, I think it would blend in better. I love all the bright colors your design has, I even like the orange sky. I think adding an ombre to the sky would give the background more dimension more dimension. If you had an ombre from a dark blue to the orange you currently have, then the stars would pop more. I think the last thing I would suggest would be to add some more details to the surfboard, if that’s what it is. like the fins for example. Great job.
