Draft Audio Story

For this project I have decided to make a podcast, that basically talks and asks questions about vacation. This relates to my course topic because the only thing that is talked about, and will be talked about, in my podcast is vacations. I was mainly inspired by the podcast Radiolab, and how they have a nice introduction and stick to mainly one topic per segment. I mainly looked up a lot of different podcasts to find research on them, and gathered information from each and incorporated it into my audio. The significance behind my idea is how unique it is. It does not change subjects or talk in a other manner, it is simply about vacations and places to travel.

My design process was a little complex, but once I sought out all the details I needed it was quite simple. First I needed to get raw audio interviews. I did this by recording myself and another girl questions that involved vacations, and our responses based off of our own desires and thoughts. Next, I really wanted to incorporate music into my podcast so it is not bland and boring. I went onto a free to download website and started searching, until one caught my eye. I used that audio several times throughout my entire podcast. Once I had all the audio I needed it was just putting pieces together. I had to do a lot of editing, cutting, and rearranging. But after all of that I was very happy with the way it turned out.

I collected the audio of the interviews through my phone and sent them to my email to access them on the computer. The music was already on the computer, so all I had to do was download it. My process for constructing my project using adobe software was mainly just getting all the materials I needed into audition, and then figuring it out from there. The main tools I used were the razor, slip, time selection, and the audio sound changer. The main technical issue I had was getting my interviews onto the computer, because at first I had no idea how I was even going to record them, nor put them onto the computer. I found an app that allowed me to take audio, and right after send it to my email which made it fast and simple.

Overall, I am pleased with my draft, I can definitely tell there may be some issues, and things I can add but it is a great first audio draft for me.

  1. I think that the topic you chose to talk about and the style you did it in was really creative. The music you chose as an intro was a good fit too, it really was a good way to make the recording seem like a real podcast. One thing I would suggest it fading the audio out when your voice is about to come in. The way it is now overpowers the sound of your voice when you begin talking. It is a loud music recording so by fading it out it would create a balance between your voice. One other thing I would also recommend is maybe re-recording your audio. The end to each word sounds like a pop because I think you recorded the audio too close to the microphone. I did the same thing in my recording and by just doing it over again it created a more professional sound.

  2. Hello, I thought you did a relatively good job on your audio draft. In my opinion what I thought was the strongest part of your draft was your use of interviews. By using interviews, your draft came much closer to be a small representation of a pod cast which was your goal for the project. A change you should make to your draft is cut down on the intro music. The intro is like 20 seconds long and your entire audio story is like a minute and thirty seconds. It’s too disproportionate to the length of your project. I do like the idea however, that is why I’m offering to just trim it down to improve it. Another change I would like to offer is to change the volume levels of the music in your draft. The music is too loud at times and comes in too loud after you are done speaking. Try to adjust the volume so it fades in and out. By doing so would make the change between vocal and music much smoother. Your off to a good start and I enjoyed listening to your draft.

  3. Hi! I really like the beginning music that you have. It’s catchy and sets the tone of podcast well. One thing I noticed is that it quickly cuts into you talking. I think it would be a lot smoother if you overlaid them and had them fade into one another. That would make things easier to listen to and really go for that kind of podcast feel you are trying to achieve. Another thing I think could be improved is the volume on the audio clips, it is a little quiet. My favorite part about this is the topic for sure, I love travel as well and thought the answers were super interesting. Audio transitions are done well, but like I said before there could be fading in between the clips. Overall, awesome job! I can’t wait to hear the final product.
